Yeast to begin with is normally found on moist parts of the human body such as the skin, the mouth and vagina. Studies show that twenty to fifty percent of healthy women carry yeast in their vaginal area. Before determining the cure for vaginal yeast infection, it is best to know what causes it. Vaginal yeast infection is caused by a fungus called Candida, specifically the Candida Albicans.Vaginal yeast starts becoming a problem when there is getting more and more of the fungus in the vagina. This can brought about by medical treatments such as Chemotherapy which is known to reduce the level of immune system. When immune system drops, yeast develops and the normal bacteria presents which is to fend off unwanted visitors so to speak, can’t do its job. Sometimes, even the use of douche or vaginal perfumed sprays may also be a contributing factor.
Treatment may range from careful, conscious personal hygiene. The best and most effective, not to mention cheapest way is to keep the vaginal area clean. This can be done by using feminine wash with the Ph balance. This cleans the vagina effectively without leaving it dry.
In some cases when the infection already is considered moderate to severe, then there are antifungal creams to be applied to the vaginal area. This would have to determined by your Gynecologist, as to which one’s would work best for you. Some of the creams are Clotrimazole, Miconazole or Terconazole. These are all anti fungal creams specifically made and designed to fight off excess yeast in the vaginal area.
There are also those that can be orally taken instead of topical application. These come in the form of a tablet or capsule is available on most drug stores. The tablets are Lotrimin, Mycelex, Monistat, Micatin, Terazol and Mycostatin.
All mentioned treatments are proven effective but of course, more than deciding on which to take, or do, you have to consult your Gynecologist first.
